Colwood is a growing community, close to Victoria, and offers numerous economic opportunities. Originally one of 4 large farms established by the Hudson’s Bay Company, the area still boasts a number of small hobby farms that contribute to a local produce market from June through September. This urban centre is primarily residential but is increasingly becoming more commercial.

Location
Colwood is located just a 15 minute drive from Victoria via Highway 1. Colwood is geographically south of Victoria and is Western Canada’s southernmost city. It lies within the Capital Regional District and is one of the areas that make up the West Shore, or Western Communities. It is easily accessible by bus, car, or bike; the Galloping Goose Trail takes riders right through the community, making cycling a viable option for numerous commuters to and from Victoria.
Schools
Colwood is part of School District 62 which offers 5 elementary schools and 2 middle schools to area residents. High school students attend the nearby Belmont Secondary School. Colwood is also home to Royal Roads University.
Recreation
The Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, 2 golf courses, and Bear Mountain Arena all offer a variety of recreational activities for all residents of and visitors to the Colwood area. Colwood also offers beachcombing, parks and greenspaces and hiking.
Economy
Colwood continues to grow both economically and demographically. Because of its close proximity to Victoria many residents commute each day. Colwood boasts an increasing number of businesses in the service sector, retail and construction. There are also many home-based businesses in the area.
